Teaching

My goal , as a teacher, is for students to develop the confidence and competence to formulate and articulate questions about which informed people disagree. I have come to think that the two best ways to achieve this goal are:

  1. To make the class itself a place of productive disagreement by bringing in sophisticated arguments and encouraging students to reject, reform, embrace, or entangle them,
  2. to set up challenging assignments and high standards while providing lots and lots of help.
