The First-Year Forum text is selected annually from among nominations from DRW faculty and instructors. It must meet specific criteria:
- It must be a powerful and engaging exemplar of rhetorical principles taught in RHE 306.
- It must be a respected and well-written book capable of engaging students and faculty in substantive discussions of general issues germane to the college experience.
- It must be a work capable of interesting a wide and diverse community, avoiding polemics or special interest politics.
