May, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to another great year for CCTE! I am so pleased to invite you and your colleagues to join with other scholar/teachers from Texas and nearby states as we convene for our 2010 annual meeting and conference, March 4-6 in Beaumont, Texas. Once again Lamar University will be our host institution, led by local arrangements chair Dale Priest. Past meetings in Beaumont have offered insightful scholarly papers and creative writing, featured well-planned events, and provided opportunities to meet and greet colleagues from colleges and universities in Texas and nearby states. I know that the 2010 conference will be no different.

So far, 2009 has been a stellar year for CCTE. The 2009 conference in Austin was a great success, and the momentum building up to our meeting in Beaumont will undoubtedly result in strong attendance and lively, informative panels. In these times of budget reductions and limits on travel, membership and participation in CCTE remains one of the most affordable options for our profession. The accommodations and meeting spaces in Beaumont have just undergone remodeling and refurbishing after the devastation of two hurricanes. The resilience and hard work demonstrated by the people there are to be applauded. We may further affirm and support their efforts and those of our colleagues at Lamar University by our attendance at the annual conference.

Included in [a recent mailing] you will find the Call for Papers, information from the local arrangements chair, and TCEA notices. In an effort to respect our environment and to reduce the clutter on your desks, CCTE information will be moving to electronic formats when possible. Please notify your colleagues of this important change and direct them to the CCTE website

Here you will find executive committee contact information, updates, and conference details. Our website will serve as the most important resource for all matters related to CCTE and will provide links to TCEA and other related sites.

As we look forward to what is ahead for our organization, the membership can be confident in the dedication of the elected officers and councilors as we strive to continue the rich legacy of CCTE. Your membership and participation in CCTE, however, and its annual conference, are the most important components of CCTE’s continued success. I am honored to serve as CCTE president this year, and I look forward to meeting you in Beaumont 2010.

Sincerely,
Peggy Pritchard Kulesz, Ph.D.
